Dry Eye Treatments
Intense pulsed light, or IPL, has long been used in skincare, and now it’s also an FDA-approved treatment for dry eye disease. In particular, it’s a highly recommended treatment for chronic dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction.
Meibomian gland dysfunction is the leading cause of dry eyes, as it prevents the eye’s oil glands from functioning properly, meaning your eyes don’t get the necessary moisture. IPL helps to treat meibomian gland dysfunction by emitting a controlled spectrum of light. This light helps to dissolve blockages in the meibomian glands, helping to treat dry eye symptoms, improve overall comfort, and reduce eyelid redness.
The treatment is quick and comfortable and is done in-office. Depending on the severity of your dry eye, you may need 1-4 treatments. Each treatment session is about 15 minutes, and most patients get relief in just a few minutes after the initial session.
TearCare is a blink-assisted device that applies heat to your eyelids to remove blockages in the meibomian glands. Meibomian gland blockages are often associated with dry eye, specifically meibomian gland dysfunction.
This procedure is done in-office and is much more comfortable than other meibomian gland treatment methods. Many even compare it to a relaxing, spa-like experience for your eyes. After the heat is applied, your doctor will assess your meibomian glands and apply gentle pressure to clear any remaining blockages.
BlephEx is an FDA-approved treatment for blepharitis and dry eye. Blepharitis is a common condition where inflammation around the eyelids causes the skin to become dry and flaky.
BlephEx provides gentle exfoliation through a spinning Q-tip-like device to remove this dry and flaky skin. The treatment is done in-office and helps to clean your eyelids and reduce excess bacteria, providing relief from dry eye symptoms.
